General music discussion
Just to get the ball rolling on a new topic, anyone have any recommendations for great music documentaries to watch over the hols?
Some that I highly recommend are:
Anvil! The Story of Anvil (we need to get them to play in Chengdu! Zebra take note!)
Dig! (Anton is God)
Loud Quiet Loud (Great one on the Pixies and good advice on not taking Valium before a show)
Air Guitar Nation

Sun, 01/22/2012 - 13:43Agreed, the Anvil and Dandy Warhols docos are great. Also:
Metallica "Some Kind of Monster" just to see these spoiled men/children and Dave Mustaine crying. Classic!
"The Decline of Western Civilisation Part 1": legendary early '80's expose of US punk/hardcore scene. Black Flag pre- Rollins!
"Mastodon" -the Making of "Crack the Skye"- usually these things are boring "in the studio" affairs, but this is very cool and revealing.
Finally, "Hated: The GG Allin" story. If you don't know who GG Allin was, google him. Seriously disturbed punk singer. This doco is also way disturbing...

Sat, 02/11/2012 - 15:39'Soul Power' about the music performances at the Rumble in the Jungle, Ali Foreman fight.
'All Tomorrow's Parties' about the chalet life with performances by the Gossip, Grizzly Bear, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lightning Bolt, Grinderman and a bunch other good ish. Lots of home video of people gettin to' up at a festival. Also, david Cross gets heckled but later finds justice.
'Notorious' & 'Control', Biggie Smalls is the illest & Joy Division you cunt. These two are not documentaries, film biographies, but the acting is great and I believe true to the artists they portray.

Wed, 03/14/2012 - 17:33Just watched the Anvil doco.....pretty cool. in a truly 'pathetic' way..//..those poor guys...wow.
here is a few, even though the holidays are long gone.
LEMMY- 'nuff said
SUCH HAWKS SUCH HOUNDS- about stoner rock / desert rock
and of course, the all-so-awesome THIS IS SPINAL TAP, even though you all probably seen it many many times, as you should!,
like that DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION one... there's been no equal documenting the early american hardcore scene.
OZZY OSBOURNE-DON'T BLAME ME is pretty cool too.
GIMME SHELTER- about the infamous Altamont Festival where that guy got stabbed during the Rolling Stones concert. You get to see Jagger watch the footage for the first time. Whoa....

Watched the GG Allin one finally. Sick, in more ways than one!
Have seen ATP already but was worth watching again. Pity they did not show a bit more of Damo Suzuki in it - total legend.
Has anyone tracked down the Tresor documentary (SubBerlin) in English? I can only get the German version and seems no English subs available.
Cheers.
